Sky chief executive officer Jeremy Darroch is the latest big name in broadcasting to become a WWF ambassador.
Darroch, who has joined the likes of Sir David Attenborough and Ben Fogle, led the entertainment company’s drive to become the world’s first carbon-neutral business of its kind back in 2006.
In October last year he announced a commitment to transform Sky’s business operations by eliminating all single-use plastics from its operations, products and supply chain by 2020.
Last January, Sky Ocean Rescue was launched, which aims to raise awareness among its 22 million customers of the crisis facing our oceans from threats such as plastic pollution, over-fishing and climate change.
Darroch said Sky Ocean Rescue had already changed opinion on plastic use but there was still a lot of work to do on securing lasting change. He described the company’s support for environmental causes as “good business”.
Sky and WWF’s Sky Rainforest Rescue campaign, which raised more than £9m between 2009 and 2015, happened under Darroch’s leadership.
