French Radio London (FRL) founder and chief executive Pascal Grierson has sold the broadcaster to US-based French Morning Media Group in return for an earn out 10% stake in the buyer. Under the terms of the deal, French Morning, whose online magazine serves the French communities of New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Texas, Washington and Montréal, will be allowed to re-brand FRL to French Morning London – making London its first “French city abroad”.
Grierson launched FRL on DAB and online in late 2010. He told The Airwaves: “Eight years after launching this adventure with many more ups than downs, it’s time to take things to the next level as part of an outfit with bigger guns and an enticing vision. I want to thank the many, many people who have contributed to FRL in the past and wish our new owners all the very best in their endeavours.”
French Morning Group has plans to launch French-speaking stations in other territories around the world.
